Five Great Ways to Use Your Backyard Space

Uncategorized l July 14, 2020

Summer is the best time to use your backyard. If you’re a lifetime city slicker who isn’t used to having land or just want some fresh ideas to spruce up your domain, we’re here to help!

1. Camp Out with Kids

Create memories for a lifetime by pitching a tent in the backyard with your children. Tell spooky stories, make some s’mores and enjoy a night of fun under the stars. We recommend keeping it simple. Don’t buy a complex, expensive tent. It’s only one night, after all, not a week in the Shenandoah. You want to spend that time enjoying quality experiences with your kids, not groaning in frustration as you try to set up a four-room yurt. Plus, it’s more fun to “rough it.”

2. Add A Fire Pit

If you’re making s’mores, you’ll need a fire! Even if you just want a relaxing spot to hang out with friends after a long week, a backyard fire pit is the perfect spot to do so! A wide variety of pre-built options are available to suit any aesthetic taste. Or, if you’re the adventurous type, look up some plans on the internet and build one yourself. There’s nothing like the feeling of finishing a construction project, even a humble one. Head to the local home improvement store for supplies.

3. Expand Your Living Space

A large backyard provides ample opportunities to expand beyond the home’s walls. Ideas include constructing a screened porch area or even installing an outdoor kitchen.

If you don’t want to go that big, consider adding or sprucing up a deck. Perhaps redecorate, add a grill and replace outdated furniture with comfortable, stylish alternatives. You can transform a deck without having to get building permits or committing to a large, expensive project.

4. Create Unique Outdoor Spaces

A large patch of grass can be turned into so much more. Section off areas by adding walkways with stone, pavers or bricks to add interest to the yard. Then, use these sectioned areas for fun projects such as planter beds, small gardens or whatever makes you the happiest.

5. Add Water

Put a jacuzzi on the deck or add an in-ground pool. This will raise your home’s value and make your house a prime destination for get-togethers. Picture yourself relaxing by the pool on a hot summer day. Nice, right? Or consider adding a fountain or other small, decorative water feature. It will give you something soothing to listen to as you lounge on your porch or deck.
