If you’re looking for fun ways to pass the time in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, you’ve hit the jackpot. In this post, we’ll talk about some beautiful places to visit as well as fun events you can participate in no matter the time of year.

Spring and summer activities

During the warmer months, opportunities for fun in Anne Arundel County are seemingly endless. The area is full of parks and trails you can enjoy as you take advantage of the agreeable weather. Downs Park offers a fishing pier, a children’s playground, two large basketball courts and four outdoor pavilions. The park also overlooks Chesapeake Bay, so you can take in the amazing views while spending a day out with family and friends.

If you love a leisurely stroll or a scenic setting for exercise, the county’s trails are extensive and intersect with national trails like the East Coast Greenway and the American Discovery Trail. The Baltimore and Annapolis (B&A) Trail features a gazebo, horticultural gardens and plenty of park benches to rest. Bikers and walkers alike will greatly appreciate the beauty of this trail as well as the tranquility of the natural scenery.

During the summer and spring, carnivals are also a great activity for Maryland residents, especially for children. Every year, the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department hosts a spring and summer carnival on the Hebron Campgrounds. Carnival visitors can indulge in delicious treats such as cotton candy and funnel cakes, and carnival rides including bumper cars and scramblers will make kids all ages burst with laughter. There are also Jolly Shows that travel through Maryland, which feature various rides like the Ferris Wheel, Tilt-a-Whirl and Freefall.

Fall and winter activities

Just because the weather is cooler doesn’t mean you can’t be active in Anne Arundel County. Ice skating is a great way to enjoy yourself when the snow begins to fall. Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis and Piney Orchard Ice Arena are the perfect spots to break out the skates and glide along. In nearby Lakeland, which is just outside of Baltimore, you can also go cross-country skiing or sledding, or you can just relax and build a snowman.

For those who love to learn, historical and educational opportunities are plentiful in Anne Arundel County. Take your kids to the Annapolis Maritime Museum, where they’ll learn about the Annapolis maritime heritage and the ecology of the area. And let’s not forget about culture – listen to some live music at the Rams Head on Stage, or if you like theater, go check out the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. There’s plenty of options for those who delight in the fine arts.

Need to thaw out from all your winter adventures? Nothing warms you up quite like a cup of hot cocoa. Head to Baltimore Coffee and Tea in Odenton, or for even more chocolate, you can visit the annual Annapolis Chocolate Binge Festival, where over 35 chocolate vendors sell their specialties.

You can’t have winter without some holiday fun. Experience the bright, magical lights at Lights on the Bay or cut down your own Christmas tree at a local tree farm. Then grab some stocking stuffers at the Anne Arundel Farmer’s Market Holiday Festival, and don’t forget to celebrate the new year with a fireworks display on the city dock on New Year’s Eve too.
